"Wow, what an amazing sight”

Only 125 metres over the hill from the bunkhouse you come upon a truly awesome sight. Nestled amongst the trees in a clearing is an authentic replica of a Celtic Roundhouse.

The Roundhouse can sleep up to 16 people with ease and has as part of the site an outdoor (but private) shower, a dry composting loo and urinal all set in beautiful wooden buildings.

If you truly want to live the Iron Age life there is an open fire in the middle of the roundhouse on which you can cook your meals or even just make a brew.

However for those who want an easier life tasty home-made meals and/or self catering facilities are also available in the bunkhouse.

For a slightly different experience how about sleeping in a Native American style Tipi. Imagine yourself falling asleep to the sounds of the forest as the tendrils of smoke from the fire meander up through the criss-cross of the poles and out of the top.

Sleeps up to 8 people.

Book 16 spaces and you will get exclusive use of the entire site which includes tepee and camping space for at least 15 small tents.

Directions • Head out of Dumfries on the Solway Coast road (A710) towards New Abbey, passing through the village of Islesteps.
• 1.65 miles after the bridge following 30mph sign in Islesteps take the turning up to the right marked Mabie Forest and Mabie House Hotel.
• Follow the road up until you get to the sign for Mabie House Hotel, bear left and follow the signs for “Marthrown of Mabie Education Centre” between a white building and a wooden one, past the bike hire shop and through the gate onto the forest track (Speed limit 15mph).
• Proceed up the track for exactly a mile where you will find us on the left.
